I'd reccomend the vitamin shoppe (vitaminshoppe.com). They typically have reasonably good products and prices to choose from. Also, the vitamin shoppe I go to has a much larger selection than any GNC I've been to. (About 4 times). For protein, I always get ON's Rocky road or Chocolate mint whey protein powder.

I dont work here but go to this website www.trtionhealth.com, way cheaper than GNC and more variety , also easy to navigate and they give you tracking info!
try finding an organic store in your neighborhood, they should be able to help you, just be cautious of what you are actually putting into your body ( for example review the interactions it may have with certain foods)
gnc sucks! when i first started lifting many years ago, i went into gnc looking to buy some supplements, i asked the worker at the counter some basic questions and she just looked at me like i was a martian or something... no help at all, i went back there a couple times since adn there has always been unknowledgeable workers and small selection of product. vitamin shoppe is pretty decent and have good prices, i am lucky enough to have a family run supplement store around the corner from me, they are very knowledgeable and will special order my product if they dont have it on the shelf. you can also shop online and find some good deals from time to time. bodybuilding . com has a good shopping site with info on each of their products.
